Park Pickups

Park pickups are one of the many ways we as a grassroots organization are able to connect with the communities we care so much about. Parks are a safe space for people of all ages, and we want to make sure they are taken care of. Every piece of litter we clean up, we separate to be recycled or trashed. This allows us to make an even bigger impact. Learn more about our work below!

Virtual Park Pickups

Our first park pick-up ever was virtual! And you may be thinking, how do you have a park pick-up, but virtual? It was easy, and COVID safe. Everyone picked up at least one bag worth of garbage around their neighborhood and sent in a photo of it to us as their entry. We could count this action as service hours for whoever needed them, but we also have away prizes! We gave out 4Ocean bracelets to those whose names were drawn. We have had tons of success with these events with around 50 bags of trash recycled.

McNeely Lake Park Pickup

Our first In-Person Park pick-up happened last spring, at McNeely Lake Park. It is a smaller park in the Louisville area, however it is one of the most polluted. We decided to have our first in-person pick-up here because it would have the biggest impact. Knowing how much trash was out there to be collected and recycled made this park pick-up one of the most special. We had multiple people come out to support this event, and we stayed from 10-6! We had many tubs of trash afterward that we were able to take to be recycled

Big Rock Clean-Up

Our second in-person Park Pick-Up happened on June 13th, 2021. We had such a great success with the McNeely Park Pick Up, we decided to do another one. This one was at Big Rock/Cherokee Park, a park in the Highlands area of Louisville. We noticed the park had a good amount of trash in it when we were hiking through, and wanted to help make it beautiful again. It was another success with multiple people coming out to show their support of the event.
